I am forced to, and if at the last moment you are willing to sub-

-mit the questions in dispute to an impartial arbitration I am

willing, for litigation would not be conducive to the best in-

-terests of the Colony. The present state of friction has been

brought about entirely by the unnecessarily hostile attitude which

you assumed in your first letter; putting courtesy on one side,

consideration for the work I have been doing for the Government at

least demanded that I should be approached in a friendly spirit

with regard to the errors which had been discovered by myself as

well as others.
